Dhaka: Five more bodies have been recovered on Friday after a ferry sank on a river in Bangladesh, raising the death toll to 33, an official said.
Local Government Administrator Helaluddin said the boat was salvaged and five bodies were recovered after the search resumed Friday.
The ferry carrying about 100 passengers sank Thursday in the River Meghna in Brahmanbaria, about 50 miles (80 kilometres) east of the capital, Dhaka. It apparently capsized after hitting the wreckage of a sunken boat.
The bodies of 28 people were recovered Thursday before the search stopped overnight.
A number of people have gone missing who were uncertain.
The administrator would not specify any number for the missing and just said “several” remained untraced. Up to 30 people were unaccounted for Friday, sources said.
