Islamabad: The Special Committee of the Public Accounts Committee was informed that defense ministry has decided to penalise former army generals and officers involved in the Rs 4 billion irregularities in the National Logistic Cell (NLC) scandal
The detail report to hold former army officers accountable over their multi billion rupees corruption in the country’s public sector freight transportation company National Logistics Cell (NLC) managed by senior Army officers would be dispatched to PAC on behalf of GHQ.
The Special Committee of PAC met under the chairmanship of Riaz Hussain Pirzada here at Parliament house on Monday.
During the meeting, the Committee chairman disclosed that that he had received assurances from the highest levels of the military command and defense ministry that the ex army officers involved in the NLC corruption would be taken to task.
He said that the committee constituted by Chief of the Army Staff Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Keyani to pinpoint officers involved in the NLC scandal has completed its investigation.   The former management team at the NLC took on Rs 4.8 billion in commercial loans for the corporation and, against government regulations, made investments in the stock market.
On the other hand, the committee also reviewed the financial irregularities made in foreign and information ministries and ordered Foreign Secretary Suleman Bashir to ensure recovery within 15 days from those officers who are involved in loss to national exchequer.
The committee also requested the judiciary to expedite hearing of cases regarding corruption because the Government would be able to pay back loans if recovery were made from corrupts.
