Karachi: A man was killed and eighteen others were wounded in a cracker blast in Karachi, the financial capital of Pakistan, on Thursday evening, rescue and police sources said.
The blast occurred near Rainbow Center, Pakistan’s biggest CD market, in Saddar Bazaar Karachi area. Saddar is an busy market of Karachi.
Superintendent of Police Saddar Irshad Saihar has said it was the low intensity cracker blast. The cracker was home made, he added.
Thirteen of the injured were rushed to Jinnnah Postgraduate Medical Center, four were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi while two of the injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
Heavy contingent of Rangers and Police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area for the investigation of the blast.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Karachi Owains Leghari visited the spot and said two miscreant riding a bike threw a Russian made hand grenade of 65 gram and escaped.
He said initiatives are being taken to provide proper security to traders while Rainbow Market Association representatives have said conspiracies are being hatching to threat traders.
The association has also announced to shut down the market on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Razzak while the some injured were identified as Tanvir Khan, 18; Anwar-ud-Din, 25; Alauddin, 30; Sirajuddin, 30; Younus Masih, 30; Abdul Qadeer,25; Qaimuddin, 30; Salahuddin,30 and his 18-year-old brother Nooruddin, Azizuddin, 20 and 60-year-old Abdur Rasheed while the remaining injured’s identities is yet to be ascertained.
Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan condemned the balst and sought report from CCPO Karachi of the incident form relevant authorities.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali shah also condemned the incident and directed to arrest the criminals with immediate effect.
