Islamabad: The United States has suspended the assistance of $ 250 to Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan due to the process of its devolution to provinces, Chairman HEC Javed Leghari said Monday.
Javed Laghari said that the reason behind the US move was the devolution of the HEC to the provinces and therefore the aid was suspended.
The chairman warned that
He said, a US official held a meeting with the chairman HEC informed him about the decision of the US administration. The US official said they could not hold separate talks with all the provinces in this regard until the fate of HEC was not decided, Laghari added.
“The official also clarified that the assistance would not be provided to HEC as well as future course to be cleared after the devolution,” the chairman said.
He said the World Bank has already suspended $ 300 million assistance to the HEC which would further add problems for the institution.
