Mumbai: International Cricket Council has fined India for maintaining a slow over-rate in their six-wicket victory in World Cup final against Sri Lanka.
India fielded first after losing the toss from Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, were found to have been just one over short of the target for bowling its overs by match referee Jeff Crowe, at the end of the fixture when time allowances were taken into consideration.
Under ICC rules that meant Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was fined 20 percent of his match fee in his role as skipper, while his players received 10 percent fines.
India accepted the penalties without contest, hardly surprising as players were rewarded with a bonus of $ 225,000 each from their delighted paymasters for winning the World Cup.
