Dhaka: Bangladesh’s Supreme Court delayed appeal of Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus against his dismissal from Grameen Bank for the second time.
The SC would take up the plea on April 4.Earlier, the Huigh Court had upheld the central Bank’s decision to sack Professor Yunus, founder of the Grameen bank.
He is widely respected for pioneering the microfinance concept of lending small amounts of money to the poor.
Professor Yunus, who is 70, was removed as head of the bank on the grounds that he had stayed past the legal retirement age of 60.
He has had a tense relationship with the Bangladeshi government ever since he tried to set up a new political party and enter politics in 2007.
