Mirpur: New Zealand beat South Africa by 49 runs in the third quarter-final of the cricket World Cup 2011 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on Friday.
South Africans were all out on 172 runs in the 43rd over. Jacob Oram got four wickets while Nathan McCullum took three wickets. Tim Southee and Luke Woodcock grabbed one wicket each.
Jacques Kallis scored 47 runs. Fof du Plessis, AB de Villers and Graeme Smith scored 36, 35 and 28 runs, respectively.
Earlier, New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori won the toss and chose to bat first. They scored 221 runs for the loss of eight wickets in allotted 50 overs.
Jesse Ryder was the top scorer from NZ who scored 83 runs, while Ross Taylor, Kane Williamson and Scott Styris scored 43, 38 and 16 runs, respectively.
Jacob Oram was declared man of the match owing to his good bowling performance.
