Islamabad: Opposition leader in the National Assembly of Pakistan Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Tuesday criticised the president’s address to the joint session of the parliament and said it only fulfilled the constitutional requirement.
He said while speaking to reporters outside the Parliament House that “President Zardari did not discuss the major problems being faced by the nation.”
He said that the opposition succeeded in registering its protest by staging a walkout during the address.
Nisar further added that Zardari only addressed the parliamentary parties of the ruling coalition today and not the joint session.
He said target killings continued in Karachi, the financial hub of Pakistan, but coalition partners remain satisfied with law and order situation there. He also criticised Muttahida Qaumi Movement and said MQM is a party of establishment.
Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman termed the boycott during the president’s address as a right step and said events such as the release of CIA contractor Raymond Davis, the deteriorating law and order situation in the country and the crippling economy had led to the embarrassment of the government.
Pakistan Tahrik-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan said that there was nothing unexpected in the President’s address. He said Zardari was addressing his masters on whose crutches he will remain in power.
