Islamabad: Pakistan Foreign Office condemned the US drone attack that killed at least 40 innocent people during a Peace Jirga (meeting) in North Waziristan, the tribal area of Pakistan, on Thursday.
Secretary Pakistan Foreign Ministry Salman Bashir in a statement on late Thursday evening said that innocent people were killed in the attack and termed the attack an open violation of human rights.
He demanded Cameron Munter, the United States Ambassador in Pakistan, to apologize over the loss of innocent lives and present a detailed report in this regard.
Pakistan has also directed its Ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani to submit a strong protest letter to the US State Department in this regard.
Bashir said that such attacks would not be tolerated at any cost. He said the US would have to respect the national integrity of Pakistan.
He also demanded a stop to the US drone strikes in Pakistan.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Prime Minister of Pakistan in their separate statements condemned the US drone attacks in Pakistan.
