Chittagong: Bangladesh beat England by two wickets in a Group B match of cricket World Cup 2011 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhary Stadium on Friday.
Mahmudullah and Shafiul Islam played crucial role in Bangladesh’s win against England in the 28th match of the world cup. They scored 58 runs in the 9th wicket partnership. Mahmudullah and Islam scored 21 and 24 runs, respectively.
Imrul Kayes and Tamim Iqbal gave a good opening stand of 52 runs. Kayes and Iqbal scored 60 and 38 runs, respectively, while skipper Shakib Al Hasan scored 32 runs.
Ahmed Shahzad and Graeme Swann bowled well from English side. Shahzad took three wickets while Swann got two. Tim Bresnan picked up one wicket.
Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and chose to field first. English side set a total of 225 runs on board with the help of two fifties of its middle order batsmen Jonathon Trott and Eoin Morgan. Both scored 67 and 63 runs, respectively.
No English player except these two managed to play a big inning.
From Bangladesh Naeem Islam, Abdur Razzak and Shakib Al Hasan grabbed two wickets each, while Mahmudullah, Robel Hossain and Shafiul Islam took one wicket each.
Imrul Kayes was declared man of the match owing to his good batting performance.
