Colombo: Sri Lanka won the toss Saturday and elected to bat first against defending champion Australia in their World Cup Group A match at R. Premadasa Stadium.
Four-time champion Australia sees the match as its toughest to date in the tournament. With thumping wins against Zimbabwe and New Zealand, Australia enters the match with a psychological edge while Sri Lanka, despite thrashing low-ranked Canada and Kenya, has also lost to Pakistan.
Australia has beaten Sri Lanka in every World Cup match since 1999, including the 2003 semifinal and 2007 final. Sri Lanka beat Australia in 1996 to win its first and only World Cup title.
