Islamabad: Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir said that the US efforts to pressure Islamabad to release Raymond Davis would prove “counterproductive”.
He said that trilateral talks of the US, Pakistan and Afghanistan would be rescheduled due to Davis issue as the US insisted that he had diplomatic immunity and killed two Pakistanis in self-defence.
Bashir said Pakistan has gained major progress by resuming talks with India after foreign secretary-level meeting at the sidelinea of the 33rd Session of SAARC Council of Ministers meeting at Thimpu, Bhutan. He said in his meeting with Indian counterpart Nirupama Rao at Thimpu was positive in which they chalked out agenda of Foreign Minister-level meeting between the two countries to hold dialogues on settlement of disputes. “Pakistan’s Foreign Minister will visit India in July to hold talks with his counterpart to review progress on the dialogue process,” he said while speaking at news briefing at Foreign Office accompanied by FO spokesman Abdul Basit.
