Islamabad: The United States has postponed all bilateral contacts with Pakistan until Islamabad releases US national Raymond Davis who killed two Pakistanis in Lahore, a US daily reported on Tuesday.
The newspaper reported that Hussain Haqqani, Pakistan ambassador to the US, was summoned by the American authorities twice after the shooting incident in Lahore. The US asked Haqqani to release Davis immediately as he enjoyed diplomatic immunity.
It further stated that the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had refused to meet Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Germany owing to this dispute.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi postponed his visit to Munich last week following the Hillary’s refusal.
Diplomatic sources said that the dispute could affect three major events planned this year: President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to Washington, the next round of US-Pakistan strategic dialogue and trilateral talks involving Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States.
