Islamabad: Federal Tax Ombudsman on Monday, submitted an inquiry report with the Supreme Court of Pakistan, revealing that 8000 containers went missing and were cleared without paying appropriate taxes and duties, inflicting 25 billion losses to the national exchequer.
A three member bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftekhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case.
The report stated that liquor, electronic items, vehicle parts and arms were being smuggled through the containers instead of goods for Nato forces.
Earlier the SC took notice of the news aired by a private television about smuggling of arms and other contraband items in containers meant for carrying essential items for Nato forces.
Meanwhile, a committee has been formed to determined the elements involved in the case.
