Karachi: President Supreme Court Bar Association Asam Jahangir on Friday called on President Asif Ali Zardari here at Bilawal House and discussed with him different issues including the problems being confronted by the legal fraternity.Talking to journalists after the meeting Asam Jahangir said that lawyers were not with any government but with democracy and democratic system.
She said during the meeting the president has directed the government to give 100 million grants to SCBA. Â She added that they had demanded of the president to institutionalize provision of grant to bar associations and there should be budgetary allocations for this purpose.
She said that bar wanted continuity of democratic system in the country, saying that lawyers would oppose any unconstitutional steps or change through undemocratic ways.
To a question she said that she even could not imagine to become Governor Punjab by relinquishing the office of SCBA President.
To another query she said that there were good relationship between bar and bench, however, she hastened to add that it did not means the bar would support each and every step of the bench.
When asked about the PML-N ultimatum to the government, she said that these were part of democracy, however, if any one wanted change through undemocratic means would be countered.
