Karachi: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who is in Karachi since Thursday night to shore up support for his fading coalition government, arrivedĀ at ‘Nine- Zero’, the headquarter of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), to persuade the MQM to rejoin the coalition government.
On his arrival at the MQM’s headquarter, the prime minister was accorded warm welcome as the party leaders and workers showered rose petals on him besides chanting slogans in favour of both the parties .
The prime minister was received by Babar Ghouri, Dr Farooq Sattar, Faisal Sabazwari and other senior leaders.
Earlier, sources in Pakistan Peopleās Party (PPP) had told The News Tribe that some headways were made in the behind the door contacts and Prime Minister will visit Nine Zero that might led MQM to withdraw its decision to quit the government.
Sources privy to the late night negotiations between the government team and the MQM say that MQM has made up its mind to rejoin the coalition government if the Prime Minister took some concrete steps for redressal of its reservations.
The MQM Coordination Committee which met simultaneously in Karachi and London discussed the overall political situation and evolved partyās strategy regarding PMās expected visit to the partyās headquarter.
The departure of MQM and JUI-F from the coalition deprived the PPP government of its majority in the parliament.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister held a detailed meeting with President Asif Ali Zardai, who is also in the city, and apprised him about his negotiations with MQM leadership especially with Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad. After the meeting, the Prime Minister again held a meeting with Governor Sindh to discuss the MQM reservations. Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and other were also present in the meeting.
