Lahore: All the arrangements concerning the funeral prayers and burial of slain Punjab Governer Salman Taseer has been finalised in the provincial capital Lahore.
His body was flown to Punjab’s capital Lahore by a C-130 military plane on late Tuesday night.
Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Law Minister Babar Awan and Firdous Aashiq Awan also travelled with the body, received by Shaheryar Taseer, son of the slain governor.
The funeral prayers would be offered at the Governor House, whose security has been handed over to Rangers, and his body would be laid to rest at a local graveyard amid tight security.
Sources said that Badshahi Mosque’s Maulana Abdul Qadeer Azad has refused to lead the funeral prayers of the slain governor.
The murderer of Punjab governor, Malik Mumtaz Qadri, who was earlier declared as security risk by the former RPO, Rawalpindi has been produced in the Anti-terrorist Court.
All markets and business centres in the city are closed while the Punjab government has announced a public holiday in the provincial capital.
