KARACHI: In Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan with a population of over 14 million, last year 19,088 people were deprived from their vehicles, 37,514 people were deprived from their mobile phones which raised questions on the performance of law and enforcers. Last year the government imposed banned on pillion riding throughout the year but remain failed to curb on crime.
According to Anti Car Lifting Cell (ACLC), a total of 4,362 incidents of car snatching or theft were reported during the year 2010 and the ACLC recovered 1,164 vehicles of them. Meanwhile, a total of 14,726Â incidents of bikes snatching or theft were reported during 2010. However, ACLC claimed to have recovered 2,532 of them.
During the year, snatching and theft incidents ratio of vehicles, bikes and mobile phones remained 96.05 per day. The most affected area for the four wheeler owners remained Gulshan Town. While the most affected area for the bikes owners remained Saddar Town.
Last year the 352 four wheelers were stole and snatched in the limits of Firozabad police station and 350 were in the limits of Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station.
The most affected area for the bikes owner remained Saddar Town and the most bike-related crimes were reported within Preedy police station precinct.
In 2010, the street criminal snatched 1,241 four wheeler at gunpoint while 1,321 others were stolen including 470 tracker- fitted vehicles from different parts of the city which raised questions on the performance of tracker operating companies. ACLC claimed to have recovered 1,908 of them.
Meanwhile, 3,230 motorcycles were reported snatched at gunpoint while 11,496 others theft in year 2010 which showed the snatching and theft incidents of bikes were also increased as compare to 2009 during which 3209 bikes were snatched at gunpoint while 10651 were stolen.
