ISLAMABAD: The opposition and coalition partners of the government of Pakistan on Saturday submitted separate adjournment motions in the National Assembly (NA) and Senate,demanding withdraw the latest increase in petroleum prices. The parliamentarians urged the NA and Senate to stop the routine proceedings of the houses and discuss serious public matters.
Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmed, a parliamentary leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, said that it was seventh time, when POL prices were increased in the three year tenure of the recent regime of Pakistan People’s Party.
He said that Pakistan has lost 100 billion dollars in the war against terror, while only 11 billion US dollars were given by the US in form of aid to Pakistan so far, six billion were in the form of military services and five billion dollars for the development purpose, he added.
Professor Khurshid demanded the government to make public friendly economic and financial policies. He also urged the government to take serious steps for eliminating corruption from the government’s institutions.
Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Spokesman, Ahsan Iqbal said that the government has given the New Year gift to the people by increasing petroleum products prices.
He said that the government shifted all the burden of its expenditures on the masses, adding that the government is pursuing anti-democratic policies.
Awami National Party (ANP) Parliamentary leader in the Senate, Haji Adeel Ahmed said despite coalition partner of the government “ANP would not endorse such decisions which are aims to increase the people’s problems”.–Agencies
