There are several reports on tech forms and sites that Samsung could use Snapdragon 600 processor for its upcoming Galaxy S4.
According to SamMobile, the main problem is that Samsung’s own Exynos 5 processor, so far the fastest processor for mobiles, has overheating problems as well as has no compatibility with LTE.
This incompatibility of Exynos 5 octa-core processor with LTE could be the compelling reason for Samsung to switch to Quad Core processor from QualComm.
An earlier report of The News Tribe has questioned the usage of Exynos 5 in Galaxy S4 by Samsung saying “Which one will be the Samsung Galaxy S4 processor: Exynos 5 (8 Core) Processor or Quad Core Processor?“
Now an analyst has made an explanation over the issue.
“We believe Samsung’s Galaxy S4 has slipped and the Galaxy S3 has been in production a quarter longer than expected,”Piper Jaffrey’s Gus Richard.
“We believe the S4 is being delayed primarily due to power issues with the company’s eight-core Exynos Octa […] we believe the company is likely to shift more to external sources. We believe QCOM (QualComm) will pick up more of Samsung’s S4 business.”
SamMobile is of the view that in the present scenario Samsung could introduce two variants of Samsung Galaxy S4: an LTE enabled Galaxy S4 with Snapdragon 600 processor and a non-LTE variant Galaxy S4 with Exynos 5.
We have to wait and see what strategy Samsung will adopt to overcome this issue.
