Peshawar: Over 400 prisoners managed to escape when some unidentified miscreants attacked Bannu Central Jail of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province.
According to details, the assailants attacked the Jail at around 01:00 local time with heavy weapons and broke the gates of the prison, resultantly around 400 prisoners, involved in heinous crimes, managed to flee.
The Police said that the attackers targeted six barracks. They added that 40 prisoners and police officials were also injured in the attack. “The injured have been shifted to district hospital,” they said.
About 20 of the prisoners were described as “very dangerous”. the police say they include Adnan Rashid, a former member of the airforce sentenced to death for an attack on former President Pervez Musharraf.
Heavy contingents of FC and police reached the site after the incident and cordoned off the area.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain, information minister of the province, told media that the assailants attacked the jail in midnight. He said he had ordered the forces to cordon off the area.
He said that 384 prisoners had managed to escape in the attack. “Investigation will be carried out that why the police contingent reached the spot late,” he said.
