Islamabad: Central Information Secretary Pakistan Peoples’ Party Fozia Wahab abruptly changed her statement regarding Davis immunity after a few hours in which she stated that Davis have diplomatic immunity.
She changed her statement while talking to a Pakistani TV channel on Monday evening when Pakistani law experts criticized her over the statement. She said her statement regarding Davis was not party policy but it was her individual statement.
Earlier on Monday, She said in a press conference at press conference at Karachi Press Club that all the diplomats have diplomatic immunity under Vienna Convention and no diplomat could be arrested, adding that Pakistan is the signatory of the convention.
She claimed that Davis, who killed two Pakistanis in Lahore last month, enjoyed immunity as he have diplomatic passport.
Fauzia added that United States was the biggest market of Pakistani products and a large number of Pakistanis are living there, 80 percent remittances of Pakistan come from the US, she said.
Law Minister Punjab Rana Sanaullah also criticized Wahab’s statement regarding Davis immunity and said she is spreading anarchy in the society. He said she should not pass comment regarding Davis issue because the case is in court and it would decide for Davis future.
