Islamabad: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, also known as MBS, is expected to visit Pakistan from May 10 to 15, marking his first trip to the country in five years, according to media sources.
The timing of MBS’s visit underscores the strengthening of bilateral relations following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s trip to Saudi Arabia in March. The Crown Prince’s arrival is anticipated to solidify agreements made in Makkah, which include substantial Saudi investments in Pakistan’s diverse economic fields.
The exact dates of the visit are still pending official confirmation. The planning for this strategic encounter follows the abrupt cancellation of a previously scheduled visit by MBS in 2023. This significant visit is set to catalyze a promised $5 billion investment from Saudi Arabia into various Pakistani sectors.
Adding to the preparatory engagements, a 50-member high-level Saudi trade delegation led by Deputy Investment Minister Ibrahim Almubarak has already arrived in Islamabad. The delegation will consider investing in key sectors such as agriculture, IT, energy, aviation, etc.
The Pakistan-Saudi Arabia investment conference commenced on Monday. During the conference, Saudi Minister Almubarak emphasized Saudi Arabia’s view of Pakistan as a highly suitable investment destination. He remarked that the Saudi delegation’s visit is a continuation of the previous visit, and the Saudi government and companies are giving preference to Pakistan for investment.
It is worth noting that Prince Salman last visited Pakistan in February 2019 under the administration of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The upcoming visit, highly anticipated by Islamabad, aims to further enhance cooperation between the two nations and bolster Pakistan’s economy with fresh Saudi investments.
