Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who has been in a confrontation with the country’s supreme court, said on Saturday that his party as well as the chief justice of the apex court had sacrificed a lot for democracy, a statement that showed he wants the situation to cool down. Speaking at a ceremony in Karachi, he said the nation is undergoing a transformation and that activism was conspicuous in parliament, judiciary and media. He said the government would follow court orders.
About the poor law and order in Karachi, he said the federal government would extend support to the provincial government to improve the situation. He said peace in Karachi is a must for country’s prosperity.
He said whether MQM sits on opposition or treasury benches, “they are our own people”.
He appreciated a peace rally taken out in the city earlier during the day.
