ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday staged a protest rally against alleged rigging in general election.
The rally led by PTI’s senior leader Shirin Mazari, Saifullah Niazi, Zahid Kazmi and others, started from party’s main office. The participants of the rally were carrying placards with anti-rigging and anti-government slogans.
The protesters tried to march towards the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) but well equipped contingents of Islamabad police had been deployed there while all routes leading to ECP were blocked with containers. The PTI activists recorded their protest and burnt a symbolic coffin of the ECP.
According to police authorities, the protesters would not be allowed to enter the Red Zone.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) holds protests in Islamabad every Friday against the alleged rigging during May 11, 2013 general election.
The decision of holding protest every Friday was announced in a big public gathering in Islamabad on May 11 where PTI chief Imran Khan demanded reconstitution of Election Commission of Pakistan.
The PTI also held another rally in PML-N stronghold Faisalabad and repeated the same demand of polls recount.
Addressing the rally, Imran Khan said his party will bring system of justice in the country. He reiterated that the system of disbelief can work but a system with injustice cannot.
Imran Khan said if voter identification is verified in four constituencies, things will become clear. He reiterated that the real challenge for Pakistanis is corruption.
