ISLAMABAD: As many as 2090 people have been killed since 2008 in sectarian attacks across the country and around 173 persons involved in the crimes pronounced punishments, the senate informed by Pakistan’s interior ministry.
The Interior ministry has informed in its written reply in Senate that there was no mechanism in the country for surveillance of funds provided to religious seminaries from Islamic countries in the past.
The existed government when came to power included the mechanism for the surveillance of the funds in the national security policy.
The surveillance revealed that some seminaries have been getting funds from Islamic countries. Of whom 15 seminaries were getting funds through the State Bank of Pakistan.
According to the interior ministry statistics 2090 people killed in sectarian attacks since 2008.
The province and region wise death toll as followed, 867 in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), 737 in Balochistan, 252 in Sindh, 104 in Punjab, 103 in Gilgit and Baltistan, 22 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and as many as five person lost their lives in the capital Islamabad.
Around 173 persons convicted for the involvement in the attacks.
The interior ministry also informed that after the initiation of dialogues with Taliban no drone attacks were carried out in the country, however during peace talks 17 people have been killed and 50 injured in two suicide attacks.
