ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has nullified promotion of 80 bureaucrats of grade 20 to 21 on Thursday.
SC asked the authorities to follow promotion policy 2013 and civil services act for making promotions and directed for establishing a new board for this purpose.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry-led three-member bench was hearing the civil servant promotion case; the apex court said that promotions should be given on merit instead on political basis.
The three-member bench includes Justices Shaikh Azmat Saeed and Aijaz Chaudhry.
It should be mentioned that the promotion notices of the bureaucrats were issued during tenure of previous Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
