Tehran: Iran has appointed Marzieh Afkham as first spokeswoman for Foreign Ministry.
Marzieh Afkham has been appointed as first foreign ministry spokeswoman of Iran for diplomatic affairs of the country. She was earlier head of public relations for the same ministry for the last 30 years. The department she was associated with came under Mohammad Khatami, the former reformist president.
Iran, after the Islamic revolution of 1979, a female charge d’affaires, Mansoureh Sharifisadr was appointed in Japan.
The west backed government of Shah, in the mid 70s appointed first female ambassador to Denmark, Mehrangiz Dolatshahi.
The current President of Iran, Hasan Rouhani has promised women for more opportunities in the coming future. He also appointed Elham Aminzadeh as vice-president in charge of legal affairs last week.
