ISLAMABAD: Telenor Pakistan under its flagship corporate responsibility initiative Telenor Hum Qadam, has set up an ICT lab for Pakistan Sweet Homes (PSH) orphanage in Islamabad.
The lab was set up at Pakistan Sweet Homes by Telenor Pakistan’s technology team that equipped the lab with 5 desktop computers, 5 laptops, a laser printer and 5 smartphones with Telenor data SIMs. The impetus for this activity was to let the employees take ownership and practically experience the contribution they would be making to the community. The group of 20 volunteers was given a tour of the entire campus, getting a firsthand view of the class rooms and hostels, while also taking out time to mingle with the children. The enthusiasm and spirits of the volunteers was commendable as they personally transported, checked, updated, serviced, installed and connected the equipment.
Mr. Zamrud Khan, Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan Sweet Homes thanked Telenor Pakistan’s employees and said, “In addition to providing the students with access to computer technology, the real intention is to empower the children, making them employable going forward by providing them with a key life skill. Telenor Pakistan has proven to be a catalyst in our efforts to provide these children with the education they need to stand on their own feet as they progress through life.”
Under the policy of annually donating ICT equipment and manifestation of its “Karo Mumkin” philosophy, Telenor Pakistan aims to establish similar labs from the donated equipment at major centers of PSH and other welfare organizations in the long run.
