Colombo: First semi-final of the cricket World Cup 2011 will be played between Sri Lankan and New Zealand at R Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka has played semi-finals four times in the world cups history. Out of which two times it reached in the finals and won the world cup one time in 1996 in the leadership of Arjuna Ranatunga. While New Zealand has played semi-final six times in the cricket world cups but unfortunately has not won any world cup even not played any world cup final.
Sri Lanka and New Zealand have faced each other 72 times. New Zealand has won 35 while Sri Lanka has won 33. One match has been drawn while three matches have been finished without any result.
Both the teams have played eight matches in the WC history against each other. Out of them five have won by New Zealand while remaining three have won by Sri Lanka.
In the ongoing mega event, Sri Lanka has defeated New Zealand by 112 runs in a group match.
Aleem Dar from Pakistan and Steve Devis will be the field umpire during the match.
