Islamabad: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has said in its Global Monitoring Report for 2012 that as many as 5.1 million children, including 63 percent girls, don’t go to school in Pakistan.
The report was read in a ceremony, which was dedicated to Malala Yousufzai,. According to the report, 250 million children were illiterate across the world while 200 million were required to be provided with an opportunity to receive basic education.
It said that 7.2 million young children, including 3.8 million girls didn’t attend school.
Meanwhile, The World Bank said there was lot to be done for education in Pakistan and it was ready to cooperate with Pakistani institutions in this regard.
The WB condemned the shooting of child education activist Malala Yousafzai in Swat.
