Apple just announced voice dictation is coming to Mac.
You’ll be able to talk to type and control apps. It’ll work in any field you can normally type in.
It appears the dictation feature is powered by Siri, so you’ll need an Internet connection for it to work.
The new operating system, Mountain Lion, will cost $20.
Mac OS X Mountain Lion Is Apple’s 8th Major Release. The update will be available in July for $19.99 through the Mac App Store.
The Operating System will feature:
- Air Play Mirroring — 1080p wireless screen sharing (must have Apple TV).
- Game Center
- NEW FEATURE: Power Nap — Keeps your Mac up to date while it sleeps.
- Documents In The Cloud — a simple new way to access and organize documents. Pages documents looks a lot like the Pages iPad app.
- Reminders (with multi-touch)
- Messages bring iMessages to your Mac
- Notification Center, featuring a switch to turn off notifications, and if you connect to a projector it gets disabled automatically.
- Dictation — everywhere on your Mac where you can type, you can talk. “You can talk into Facebook if you want.”
- Sharing system wide. For example, any image you can quick look, for instance, can be sent to Flickr. Sharing works in full-screen apps, you can be in full screen iPhoto, then share direct to Messages without dropping focus in iPhoto.
- Unified Smart Search bring searching right to the browser address bar.
- iCloud Tabs — shows all the pages you have open across all devices. Brings a very iPad-like experience to the desktop when navigating the web.
- Increased Chinese Language Support — including a new Chinese dictionary and a Chinese search engine.
Siri learned a bunch of new tricks:
It can look up sports scores, it can make reservations, and it’s on the iPad.
Apple introduced new Maps for iOS.
This is a biggie. Good-bye to Google Maps. It also includes turn-by-turn directions. Sadly, it looks like there is no transit directions.
