Mumbai: At least 27 people have been killed and 26 others injured when a speeding van crashed into a stationary bus on a highway linking the western Indian cities of Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra state, reports say.
Eleven women and four children are among those who have died in the mishap which happened in the Khalatpur area early on Monday.
The victims were returning to Pune when the gruesome accident occurred near Khalapur village, officials said.
The critically injured passengers have been rushed to hospitals in Mumbai and Thane.
India has the world’s highest road toll, with more than 110,000 people killed every year in accidents.
