California: Junior Seau, 43, former long-time NFL linebacker was found dead today at his home apparently in a suicide case, ABC News reported.
At a press conference outside the deceased player’s home, Frank McCoy, Oceanside Police Officer, said the town police got a call from woman around 10 am PT who identified herself as a girlfriend of Seau. She informed the police Seau was lying in bedroom unconscious with a gunshot wound in his chest. A handgun was found near his body, the police officer said.
Seau’s mother reduced to tears on the occasion, saying “Take me, take me, leave my son, but it’s too late.”
The San Diego Chargers’ linebacker found dead apparently in a suicide attempt, San Diego Chargers Chaplain Shawn Mitchell said.
Seau reportedly texted his ex-wife and three children individual messages on Tuesday saying: “I love you.”
“Everyone at the Chargers is in complete shock and disbelief right now. We ask everyone to stop what they’re doing and send their prayers to Junior and his family,” a statement from the team said.
“Junior was one-of-a-kind. The league will never see anyone like him again,” Miami Dolphins CEO Mike Dee said in a release. “He will be missed, and on behalf of the Miami Dolphins we want to extend our condolences to his family.”
Seau ended his career in 2009, after playing 20 years in the NFL—13 in San Diego, three in Miami and four in New England. He was selected to 12 consecutive Pro Bowls while with the Chargers and was named first-team All-Pro six times. He amassed 545 tackles and 56.5 sacks in his NFL career.
