Karachi: Twelfth convocation of Jinnah University for Women was held on Friday at the university’s campus in which 745 students were granted degrees of PhD, master and graduation programmes.
Nine students were granted gold medals, 30 were given Maulvi Riazuddin Ahmed Memorial Shield Award, while cash awards were given to two students by Syed Manzoor Memorial Trust.
Federal Minster for Overseas Pakistanis Dr Farooq Sattar was the chief guest on the occasion. University’s Chancellor Wajihuddin Ahmed and Vice Chancellor Dr Naeem Farooqui were also present.
Addressing the convocation, Chancellor Wajihuddin Ahmed said that the day was an important milestone for the students of Jinnah University. It was because of the efforts of the university’s founder Maulvi Riazuddin that the university kept on making great strides to success, he said.
Vice Chancellor Dr Naeem Farooqui said the university had a credit of being the first private sector university for women where students were provided contemporary education.
Chief Guest Dr Farooq Sattar said that in the present-day hustle and bustle, it was a good omen for the nation that female students were becoming successful in the field of education.
He assured the students that five per cent of the next budget would be allocated for education. He said that the fact that call rates were cheaper than bread was a clear sign that all was not well in the country.
Pakistan was in the critical stage, therefore, female students should come forward and play their role for the betterment of the country, he added
