T20 World Cup 2024: India Defeats England to Reach the Finals

Guyana: India stormed into the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 with a commanding 68-run victory over defending champions England in the second semi-final at the Providence Stadium on Thursday.

Led by a stellar performance from Rohit Sharma, who scored 57 off 39 balls, and a crucial 47 off 36 from Suryakumar Yadav, India set a challenging total of 171. Despite a shaky start, with early dismissals of Virat Kohli (9) and Rishabh Pant (4), Sharma and Yadav’s partnership stabilized the innings. Contributions from Hardik Pandya (23 off 13) and a late surge from Ravindra Jadeja (17 off 9) and Axar Patel (10 off 6) ensured a competitive score.

England’s chase began promisingly with an initial 26-run stand, but quickly fell apart after Jos Buttler was dismissed by Axar Patel in the fourth over. Jasprit Bumrah’s removal of Phil Salt compounded England’s woes, and their batting order crumbled under pressure. The spin duo of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav wreaked havoc, taking three wickets each, while Bumrah added two, restricting England to a meager 103 runs in 16.4 overs.

Harry Brook provided some resistance with 25 runs off 19 balls but found little support from his teammates. England’s top and middle order, including Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, and Liam Livingstone, failed to make significant contributions.

India’s bowling and strategic field placements effectively dismantled England’s batting lineup, paving the way for a dominant win. Chris Jordan’s three wickets and efforts from Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, Jofra Archer, and Reece Topley, who each took a wicket, couldn’t stem the Indian onslaught.

With this victory, India advances to the final, where they will face South Africa on Saturday, June 29, in Barbados.

First-Ever Final between Two Unbeaten Teams in History

For the first time in the history of the T20 World Cup, two unbeaten teams will face off in the final event.

In the T20 World Cup 2024, South Africa and India, both undefeated throughout the event, will compete against each other in the final match. The clash between these two teams is scheduled for next Sunday, where one team will emerge victorious and claim the T20 World Cup title.
