Govt. Prepares for Additional Rs. 3.41 per Unit Hike in Electricity Charges

Islamabad: The federal government is preparing to burden the public with another financial blow amid inflation woes. There is a possibility of an increase of Rs. 3.41 per unit in electricity prices.

According to sources, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request for an increase in electricity prices in NEPRA. This request is in line with the monthly fuel price adjustment. NEPRA will hear this request on June 28.

According to CPPA’s request, last month 12.26 billion units of electricity were generated at a production cost of Rs. 111 billion.

Electricity was produced at Rs. 31.44 per unit from furnace oil, Rs. 24.01 per unit from LNG, and Rs. 26.09 per unit from Iran.
