Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that aligning Pakistan’s upcoming fiscal year 2024-25 budget with International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions was crucial, during a session in the National Assembly on Tuesday.
Addressing lawmakers engaged in budget deliberations, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed optimism about receiving positive news from the IMF soon following the announcement of the budget 2024-25 that was created as per the directives from the IMF, expecting a tax revenue of Rs. 13 trillion.
He refrained from making premature statements but indicated confidence in meeting the IMF’s requirements.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, under Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, aims to secure a comprehensive IMF program by setting ambitious targets for tax revenue and reducing the fiscal deficit from 7.4% to 5.9%. This strategy includes enhancing tax collection mechanisms and broadening the tax base across the country.
Discussing infrastructure projects, Shehbaz Sharif noted significant road constructions undertaken by his previous government in Punjab, originally intended for federal oversight.
