Temperature in Karachi Expected to Exceed 40°C, Feels Like 45°C Today

Karachi is currently enduring an intense heatwave, with the ‘feels like’ temperature soaring to a scorching 45°C on Wednesday, and the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a significant rise in temperatures in the port city starting today.

According to the latest report from the Meteorological Department, the temperature in Karachi is expected to surpass 40 degrees Celsius. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has recorded the actual temperature at 38°C, coupled with a humidity level of 43%. The city is experiencing southwesterly winds blowing at speeds of 18 to 20 kilometers per hour.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has stated that from tomorrow until June 1, there is a likelihood of a heatwave affecting Karachi Division, as well as the districts of Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal. During this period, daytime temperatures in Karachi are expected to range from 40-42 degrees Celsius, and from 42-44 degrees Celsius in Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal. Yesterday, the temperature in Mohenjo-daro, Sindh, was recorded at 52.2°C.

The Meteorological Department further stated that most regions of the province are experiencing severe heatwave conditions, with daytime maximum temperatures being 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal. The affected areas include Dadu, Qamber Shahdadkot, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, and Shaheed Benazirabad districts.

Meanwhile, in Sanghar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparkar, and Badin districts, temperatures are expected to be 5°C to 7°C above normal during this period.

The Meteorological Department also noted that the heatwave conditions in urban areas are expected to persist until June 1.

On Sunday, meteorologist Owais Haider predicted that the coming week in Karachi could be “the hottest week of the year.”

People are advised to stay indoors and stay hydrated by consuming plenty of cold beverages to prevent heatstroke due to the extremely hot weather and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
