US Warns of Possible Sanctions if Pakistan-Iran Advance New Agreements

Washington: The United States has once again hinted at imposing sanctions on Pakistan if it proceeds with new agreements and enhances trade with Iran.

During a press briefing in Washington, a journalist asked Deputy Spokesperson for the State Department, Vedant Patel, about the visit of the Iranian President to Pakistan. During his visit, Pakistan and Iran signed eight memorandums of understanding and also agreed to increase bilateral trade to $10 billion. The journalist inquired how the United States views these agreements.

In response, Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel clarified that potential sanctions could be imposed on those trading with Iran and advised all countries to be aware of the potential risks of sanctions. However, Pakistan can manage its dealings with Iran under its foreign policy framework.

Regarding sanctions on Chinese and Belarusian companies, Patel responded that these entities were channels for the proliferation of destructive weapons. Suppliers face sanctions to prevent and control the spread of highly destructive weapons.

He emphasized the continuous commitment to speak out against the supply of weapons of mass destruction.
