Lack of Sleep a Major Cause of Migraine, Medical Experts

Washington: Medical experts have derived from recent research findings that insufficient sleep, or sleep deprivation, is a significant factor along with other causes for migraine pain.

According to international news agencies, researchers at the American University of Health Sciences have discovered a correlation between sleep deprivation and migraine pain in their recent experiments. Subsequently, experts have revealed that individuals who have adequate sleep may be more protected against migraine attacks.

The research report further indicates that migraine sufferers often complain of sleep disturbances or insomnia, including difficulty falling asleep, poor sleep quality, excessive daytime sleepiness, waking up too early, and being forced to sleep due to migraine pain.

The research professor stated that it was previously unknown whether migraine causes sleep disturbances or vice versa. However, it has been widely accepted for some time that there is indeed a relationship between sleep and migraine pain.

Research in the past on this subject was based on the patient’s own subjective information. Now we have quantitatively measured sleep and found that not only does migraine pain affect sleep, but if there is a disturbance in your sleep, it can also exacerbate headaches in migraine patients.
