Lahore: A resolution demanding to declare kite and string making a non-bailable offense was presented in the Punjab Assembly, initiated by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member Hina Parvez Butt.
According to media reports, a member of the PML-N in the assembly stated while presenting the resolution that the assembly expresses deep concern over kite flying and string making in the province since the menace of stray kite strings has led to the tragic loss of several lives in Punjab and such incidents are being reported on a daily basis, causing concern among the citizens.
The resolution also highlights the failure of Punjab police to effectively control the escalating incidents across the province. It stated that it appears that the police are failing to stop kite flying. Many innocent citizens have lost their lives due to kite-flying incidents and therefore the assembly demands effective legislation from the government to permanently stop kite-flying.
Hina Parvez Butt emphasized that kite and string-making should be declared a non-bailable offense. Any person involved in kite or string making should face a non-bailable case, and no judge should grant bail to the accused kite or string makers.
The alarming increase in incidents involving stray kite strings has posed a significant threat to citizens across various parts of the country, resulting in critical injuries to multiple individuals.
Notably, last week, the Karachi commissioner took decisive action by imposing a ban on the sale and flying of kites in the metropolitan area. This ban, enforced under Section 144 CrPC, encompasses the making, sale, and flying of kites, effective from March 30 to May 29, as a preventive measure to safeguard public safety.
