World’s Smallest Border between Spain and Morocco

Madrid: The border area between Spain and Morocco is considered the world’s smallest border.

According to international news agencies, this tiny rocky place on the North African coast, known as Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera, holds the honor of being the world’s smallest border.

This border area, only 85 meters long, is a rocky part connected to the coast of Morocco, which Spain conquered in 1564.

It is noteworthy that Spain has approximately 2,000 kilometers of land borders with Portugal and France. However, there are also small borders with Andorra, Gibraltar, and Morocco, among which this one with Morocco is considered the smallest border.

Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera has been under Spanish sovereignty since 1564. Although Morocco has repeatedly claimed ownership of it, Spain has never expressed willingness to return the land. Military personnel have also been deployed by Spain for the security of this area.
