Lahore: Advocate General Punjab Khalid Ishaq informed the court that a monthly expenditure of Rs. 1.2 million is being incurred on the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The food for the PTI founder is brought from a special kitchen, he said.
The disclosure came to light during a session presided over by Chief Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed Khan, which addressed an appeal filed by PTI Lawyers Forum President Afzaal Azeem Pahat. Pahat’s appeal sought enhanced security measures for Khan in jail, expressing concerns over banned meetings and the safety of the PTI founder.
Discussions during the hearing centered on Khan’s security arrangements, Khalid Ishaq revealed the allocation of seven cells and the deployment of 14 security officers exclusively for him. Despite the installation of CCTV cameras worth Rs. 500,000 to monitor his surroundings, concerns persist regarding restrictions on meetings.
The Advocate General further stated that there is one security officer for 10 individuals in Adiala Jail, but we have appointed 14 security officers for PTI founder.
He said that the PTI founder’s food comes from a special kitchen, and nothing is prepared for anyone else in this kitchen. The monthly security expenses for the PTI founder in jail are Rs. 1.2 million.
Chief Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmad Khan acknowledged the gravity of the situation but deferred further hearings on the matter until after Eid, underscoring the need for comprehensive deliberation on Khan’s security and welfare while in custody.
