Buckingham Palace: As British Summer Time (BST) approached, a flurry of activity ensued within King Charles’ royal residences, where British Royal Family workers diligently adjusted the time on more than 1,600 clocks scattered across the majestic palaces.
The task of timekeeping, entrusted to a trio of individuals employed by the Royal Family, encompassed the delicate adjustment of an extensive array of timepieces spread across the regal residences. From the grandeur of Windsor Castle to the historic halls of Buckingham Palace and St James’s Palace in London, and even reaching the picturesque confines of the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, the clocks were meticulously tended to.
This task involved meticulously adjusting timepieces within the Royal Collection, including those for King Charles III and other members of the Royal Family.
The extensive collection includes 450 clocks in Windsor Castle, 350 in Buckingham Palace, and an additional 50 clocks in St James’s Palace, London, and the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
Images released by the Royal Collection Trust showcase the skilled horologists diligently returning clocks to their rightful places within the opulent confines of Buckingham Palace. The endeavor coincides with the completion of five years of improvement works, with works of art being meticulously reinstalled.
According to the Royal Collection Trust, the adjustment involved changing the timepieces among the collection’s most exquisite and historically significant items.
Among these treasures is the Anne Boleyn clock, presented by Henry VIII during his marriage to Anne Boleyn in 1532.
The clocks spring forward an hour on March 31st at 1 am, marking the beginning of British Summer Time (BST), also known as Daylight Saving Time (DST). They will fall back by an hour to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) at 2 am on October 27th.
