Five Chinese Engineers Among Six Killed in Shangla Suicide Attack

Peshawar: A devastating suicide attack in Shangla’s Besham city claimed the lives of five Chinese nationals and one Pakistani individual on Tuesday, as confirmed by the deputy inspector general of police (DIG) for Malakand.

According to details, in northwest Pakistan a suicide bomber targeted a convoy of Chinese engineers on their way to a camp in Dasu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulting in the loss of lives of five Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver, as confirmed by Mohammad Ali Gandapur, the regional police chief.

According to Gandapur, the suicide attacker drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the convoy as it journeyed from Islamabad to Dasu. The targeted area, known for its significance due to a major dam project, has unfortunately witnessed such attacks in the past, indicative of the volatile security situation in the region.

The attack was reminiscent of a similar tragic incident in 2021 where a bus blast claimed the lives of 13 individuals, including nine Chinese nationals.

Responding swiftly to the situation, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police mobilized relief operations at the site of the attack, extending support to the affected individuals and initiating necessary investigative measures to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As investigations into the incident unfold, authorities are expected to intensify efforts to apprehend perpetrators and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
