Pakistan is Considering Reviving Trade with India, says Ishaq Dar

London: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, addressing the media in London after the New Clear Energy Summit in Brussels, highlighted the need to revive direct trade channels with India. He also highlighted the need for financial assistance from international financial institutions and multilateral organizations.

After attending the New Clear Energy Summit in Brussels, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, while speaking to the media in London, said that trade with India via Dubai and Singapore has become very expensive.

He stated that after India’s controversial move to revoke the special autonomous status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, trade relations with India were suspended.

He said that Pakistan’s business community desires to revive direct trade with India. He further stated that a decision will be made after consulting with all stakeholders.

He said that the government of Pakistan will take steps to reduce inflation and alleviate the economic difficulties of the common man by bringing down prices over the next five years.

He said that Shahbaz Sharif’s 16-month government saved Pakistan from economic ruin after the previous government’s disastrous policies had ruined the country’s economy.

He said that Pakistan has been pursuing nuclear energy since the 1960s and despite the world’s skepticism, it has continued to benefit from nuclear energy. Now the world acknowledges that nuclear and hydro energy are the safest and best options to tackle climate change challenges.

He said that the previous governments of the Muslim League-N completed various atomic projects and added 3,800 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.

Responding to a question about hearings in the US Congress on matters related to Pakistan, he stressed that Pakistanis should unite politically when they are abroad.

On a question regarding elections, Ishaq Dar said that we have a comprehensive constitutional and legal framework for elections. He further said that various parties have received the mandate of the people and they should accept it.
