New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, was arrested on Thursday by India’s financial crime agency in connection with allegations of graft concerning the city’s liquor policy, his party confirmed. This arrest deals a blow to the opposition ahead of upcoming elections.
According to details, Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and Chief Minister of Delhi, has been arrested in connection with a liquor policy case.
Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested by the Indian Enforcement Directorate (ED) on charges of grafting through the liquor policy. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is probing allegations that a liquor policy implemented by the Delhi government in 2022, relinquishing its control over liquor sales in the capital, favored private retailers unfairly.
It should be noted that two years ago, as a result of the implementation of the liquor policy by the Delhi government in India, government control over the liquor trade in the capital, New Delhi, was abolished, after which this policy was reversed, the AAP maintains that no evidence of misconduct has surfaced.
Reacting to the arrest, a spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party said that Kejriwal will remain the Chief Minister of Delhi and will run the government from jail. Our lawyers are heading to the Supreme Court. We will demand an immediate hearing from the Supreme Court tonight.
