Sindh: More Than 200 Citizens and Traders Abducted in 2 Months

Karachi: In a concerning escalation of lawlessness, during the past 2 months, more than 200 citizens and businessmen have been abducted in Sindh.

According to a private TV channel’s report, bandits are operating openly across Sindh, including Karachi, and are openly committing abductions, facilitated by the availability of modern weapons.

The report states that during the last two months, more than 200 citizens and businessmen have been abducted and ransoms have been demanded. For the release the abductors demanded ransom and 50 of the kidnapped individuals were released only after hefty ransom payments, shedding light on the grim reality of security challenges plaguing the province.

Traditionally, dacoit gangs in Sindh have employed tactics like honey traps to target traders and citizens. However, their audacity has reached new heights as they now brazenly target transporters and traders on the National and Super Highways, posing a severe threat to public safety.

In the first two months of the new year, more than 200 traders and citizens have already been abducted in the province, with over 50 of the kidnapped individuals being released only after hefty ransom payments, shedding light on the grim reality of security challenges plaguing the province.

According to police records, in Sukkur and Larkana range, 81 individuals were abducted, out of which 59 were recovered using ransom payment or other means. Charges were filed in 35 abduction cases, while 28 cases were not registered.

Similarly, in Ghotki district, 26 individuals were abducted, out of which 22 were recovered, and cases of abduction of 15 citizens were registered, while 11 cases could not be registered.

Similarly, in Shikarpur, 18 individuals were abducted, out of which cases of abduction of 12 citizens were registered. In Kashmore, 37 individuals were abducted, and only 11 citizens or traders could be recovered. According to police records, there are 27 abduction cases for ransom that have not been resolved yet.
