Quetta: In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Balochistan experienced a double tremor scare as two moderate-level earthquakes struck the region within an hour, leaving residents shaken but fortunately causing no casualties.
The initial tremors, measuring at a magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter Scale, reverberated through Quetta and its surrounding areas around 5:35 am, as reported by the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad of the Metrological Department.
The seismic activity extended its reach to the Pakistan-Afghan border areas, including Nushki, Chaman, Chagai, Qilla Abdullah, Dalbandin, Pishin, and other nearby locales. Notably, the earthquake’s impact was also felt along the Pakistan-Iran border regions.
The epicenter of this first earthquake was situated approximately 150km southwest of Quetta, with a depth recorded at 35 kilometers below the surface.
Shortly thereafter, at 6:24 am, the same vicinity was rattled by another seismic event registering at a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter Scale, with its epicenter located 120km southwest of Quetta. Despite the successive shocks, there were no reports of casualties or significant damage.
